Wythenshawe Vets Over 35s are situated in south the city and play in the Cheshire-based Vets Division Top Division.

Their roster this campaign features 9 former Premier League players, with a collective 1,801 top-flight matches.

Stephen Ireland started playing for the side during pre-season this summer through good friend and present team teammate Blake Norton, and the former Republic of Ireland midfielder then asked additional ex-pros, who all play in a midweek small-sided game, to participate.

Former Senegal forward Niasse, who scored twelve goals in sixty-five top-flight matches for the Toffees and even now goes to their matches at Goodison Park, also made his debut versus the opposition - who are located in the city and use an Everton warm-up gear as their strip.

"It's a bit unusual but then, I enjoy running and just go forward - I'm not staying back that much," he added.

"I warn my defender 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to continue attacking.

"That running is what I'm after. It's good fun."

"I felt I was a little starstruck playing against him to be honest.

"Even Emile [Heskey] got on and he's got 60-odd English caps.

"We competed well for a solid 20 mins but then we had a man sent off and it was tough.

"Our group really have not stopped talking about it - I was phoning my mother and brother on the way home.

"The opponents were all really nice, shaking our hands after the game - it was like facing a group of normal fellas.

"Now we can't wait for the second match."
